WHAT IS VOCODER SOFTWARE?
A vocoder plug-in is a unique effect that allows you to synthesize the human voice. It can do so by combining the tonal qualities of vocals with the frequency modulation of a specific musical instrument. This process results in a computerized, inhuman-sounding voice that's been a popular feature in electronic music since the '70s. Famous examples of a vocoder in use are Daft Punk's 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' and Kraftwerk's 'The Robots.'
HOW DOES AUTO-TUNE VOCODIST SOFTWARE WORK?
As you open the Vocodist plug-in on your DAW, you'll see the Model, Envelope, Filter, Noise, and Oscillator sections. Each section can be used to customize the preset you selected from the top left menu of the plug-in. The Model section lets you choose among the most iconic vocoders that have ever been made. These are perfect replicas of the original analog vocoders, but in the list, you'll also find the original Antares VOC-1, created by Antares for a more contemporary sound effect.
The Filter Section lets you customize the sonic features of the model you selected with a series of control knobs that allow total control over the final output. In this section, you can adjust Bands, Quotient, Stretch and change the length of spectrum analysis through the Min and Max Hz.
The Oscillator section contains two wave generators with up to an 8-voice polyphony. This section works exactly like an analog synth so that you can modify pitch, scales, the waveform's sound, and much more. Envelope lets you adjust the Attack and Release of the vocoder effect. Finally, the Noise section regulates the effect's color, tonal balance, and sensitivity.
