As one of Moog’s final polyphonic synths, the Memorymoog competed with the likes of the Prophet-5 and Oberheim OB-Xa. Cherry Audio’s Memorymode improves upon the original by fixing the notorious reliability issues and adding features like an advanced arpeggiator and a suite of onboard effects. My favourite feature, however, is the voice modulation section, which allows modulation of oscillator pitch, pulse width, filter cutoff and VCA level. The ability to route modulation to different parameters gives the Memorymoog an expressive, evolving character, and I’ve built many presets around this unique flexibility.
