When I was putting this pack together, I really wanted to make use of Arturia Mini V4’s Drive and Feedback controls. The Drive knob increases the gain of the signal going into the filter, adding a distinct growl to the sound. The Feedback knob, on the other hand, creates a feedback loop that pushes the filter even harder, producing unpredictable and often intense results at higher settings.
I’ve always liked using overdrive and saturation because it adds high-end harmonics and compresses the sound, helping it sit better in a mix while adding some of that analog warmth. Having a great filter overdrive built into the synth is such a great bonus. The extra crunch and grit you get from these controls helps make each sound feel bigger, more present, and more full.
The ability to push things to that point where the distortion and tone really sing is what I love most about Arturia Mini V4.
The pack includes a variety of bass sounds, from classic, vintage tones to modern, unison basses with aggressive distortion. Most of the sequences are built from the arpeggiator, with plenty of modulation and randomization to keep them dynamic and evolving, whether used as arpeggios or single-line bass sequences. For leads, I focused on creating expressive sounds with adjustable glide and delayed vibrato, allowing for simple yet powerful lines that cut through a mix.
Mini V4 comes with loads of high-quality effects, including pitch-shifting delays, reverb, and a distortion unit, all of which I used to enhance the sound. These effects are easily adjustable, usually mapped to Macro 4, so you can dial them down or turn them off entirely if you’d prefer to add your own effects.
Every preset has custom-mapped macro controls, letting you adjust any distortion and effects to shape each sound to fit your song. Whether you want to tone it down or really crank it up, these macros give you the flexibility to make the sound your own.
Minotaur also comes with an identical bank for Analog Lab, which also works with the free version Analog Lab Play, so the sounds are easy to integrate into any setup. If you’re into heavy, dark, distorted sounds and want to bring that analog character to life, Minotaur is a great way to add something intense and unique to your tracks.
