The samples for Ancient Roman Pneumatic Organ are taken from a remarkable reconstruction of a bellows-driven organ built in the 1930s by the Pécs Angster Organ Factory for the Aquincum Museum in Budapest. This instrument was recreated based on detailed measurements of archaeological remains of an ancient organ—likely hydraulic—dating back to 228 AD, discovered in the Roman city of Aquincum. 

In its original form, the instrument required two performers: one to operate the bellows supplying air, and another to play the keys.

The virtual instrument presented here is not intended as a strict historical replica, but rather as a sonic interpretation—a suggestion of how one of the earliest organs might have sounded.
